The Balance Method is a special form of acupuncture known as distal acupuncture. Distal means 'far away' or 'at a distance'.

The Balance Method by Dr. Tan

The Balance Method was developed by Dr. Richard Tan. He based the method on his many years of experience as an acupuncturist, as well as on some of the classical texts from which Traditional Chinese Medicine originated. The Balance Method, which determines which acupuncture points to treat in three steps, is so successful that it is widely used by many acupuncturists.

How does the Balance Method work?

The concept behind the Balance Method is somewhat similar to the theory on which ear acupuncture is based: a microsystem representing a macrosystem. In this case, the microsystems are located on the lower legs, forearms, and head. This means that, for example, a shoulder complaint can be treated on the ankle. Treating the complaint 'at a distance' is seen as a major advantage because there is no need to needle the painful area. The Balance Method gets its name from the principle that the meridians connected to the complaint can be rebalanced through other meridians.

When is the Balance Method used?

Dr. Tan's method is very effective for various types of pain complaints, such as neck and shoulder pain, back pain, joint pain, and headaches. Even with long-standing pain complaints, the Balance Method can provide relief. Often, the first treatment already yields results and you experience a significant reduction in pain.
