Ines has been active for many years as a pioneer and advocate for the implementation of Integrative Medicine (IM) in healthcare in the Netherlands. One of the pillars is referring to evidence-based and safe complementary care, including acupuncture.

Motivation for the award

She has used her knowledge and quality as a medical specialist and IM physician for:

• Setting up an IM consultation hour in the hospital for oncology patients.
• Starting a referral circuit with complementary care providers - including acupuncturists - in the field of oncology and pediatrics. She has contacted NVA acupuncturists in the Arnhem region for this purpose.
• Creating a space for complementary care and acupuncture for cancer on the website kanker.nl.
• Supporting the inclusion of acupuncturists in the IKNL cancer referral guide.
• Delivering an inspiring and passionate presentation at the NVA annual meeting 2023 on Integrative Oncology (IO) and acupuncture for cancer.
• Teaching about IO and science in acupuncture at the 6-day NVA postgraduate education in oncology 2023-2024 and 2024-2025.

Ines gives lectures in the Netherlands and abroad about IM in which the science and application of acupuncture as a complement to regular care is included. In this way, she ensures more support for complementary medicine, including acupuncture.
