Wrist and ankle acupuncture
This form of acupuncture was developed in the 1960s by a Chinese physician. It is a very specific treatment that is not yet widely used in the Netherlands.
Six acupuncture points
It involves working with six fixed acupuncture points on the wrist and ankle. These points correspond to specific areas in the body. Certain complaints can be treated through each of these points. For example, the acupuncturist may choose one point for insomnia and another point for pain.
How does it work?
The way the needles are inserted is different from classical acupuncture. The needle is placed very superficially on the point and then slid in a certain direction under the skin. Unlike in a classical acupuncture treatment where you may sometimes feel a 'heavy' sensation at the needle insertion point, this is usually not the case with wrist and ankle acupuncture. Relief is often felt quickly, especially with pain complaints.
When is wrist and ankle acupuncture used?
This form of acupuncture can be used for various complaints. It generally works well for (chronic) pain and mobility issues.
