Yin and Yang

In traditional Chinese thinking, the universe consists of a cycle of life energy Qi. Qi manifests in two opposing energies: yin and yang. The Chinese language does not have words as we know them, but associative and descriptive concepts. Thus, yang officially means the sunny side of a
slope
and yin means the shady side of a slope. This associates Yang with the light, warm, mobile, purposeful, masculine principle. Yin represents the dark, cold, tenacious, receptive, feminine principle. Yin and yang are not absolute opposites. They can only exist in relation to each other. They need each other.

Yin and Yang

In the symbol this is clearly visible. The S-shape that separates the halves shows that both forces want to merge into each other. The dots show that each part also contains the opposite. For example, a sunny day is yang but the shadows are yin. The sunnier the day, the sharper and darker the shadows appear. Therefore, nothing is ever completely yin or completely yang.

Balance
People are also made up of yin and yang energy. For healthy functioning, it is important that yin and yang work well together. Our feelings, thoughts, and physical condition are the result of the interaction between these two forces. If yin and yang are out of balance for a long time, an illness can develop. The balance can be disrupted by changes in the environment, emotional pressure, or an unhealthy lifestyle. Of course, it is not the case that you will immediately become ill if yin and yang are momentarily out of balance. To better understand the energies and their interaction, the following example is very illustrative.

'The interaction between yin and yang'
In the morning, you have a meeting and are at risk of being late. Hurriedly, you gather all your things. Where are the keys? You search in all the places you can think of quickly. You run around and get irritated. You start to feel warm, your face turns red, and your heart beats faster.

This behavior is typical Yang behavior: running, action, tension, energy. If all that running around doesn't lead to anything, you collapse into a chair. You start to calm down. You go back in time in your thoughts. When did I last use the keys? Where did I put them then?

This way, the Yang behavior gives way to Yin behavior: calm, distance, going back in thoughts. The balance is restored, and you find the keys in the pocket of the raincoat you wore yesterday because it was raining.

Circulation
The energy in our body follows an extensive system of channels (meridians) and circulates throughout the body in 24 hours. There are twelve main meridians, each of which is related to an organ. For optimal energy balance, the organs must be in good condition. The condition of the organs depends on factors such as nutrition, lifestyle, heredity, and environment. This means that the energy balance is different in each person.
