Acupuncturist as defined in the professional profile
Acupuncturist is the one who professionally treats people with physical and/or mental complaints using (a combination of) needle techniques, moxa techniques, cupping, and specific massage techniques.
The acupuncture treatment can be supported by exercise therapy, herbal medicine, Tui-Na, meditation, and advice on dietary and lifestyle patterns from associated disciplines.
The Professional Profile was developed in 1995 by the Commission de Wit at the request of the NVA Core Board. It was based on a model profile developed by the Institute for Curriculum Development SLO. In 2011, a textual adjustment was made due to changed societal terminology. The Professional Profile, along with the Articles of Association and Regulations, serves as an important guideline for the quality of the NVA acupuncturist.
