Shiatsu
Shiatsu is a massage therapy that originates from Traditional Chinese Medicine and was further developed in Japan. Shiatsu is closely related to acupuncture because it is also based on the system of meridians (energy pathways in our body) and acupuncture points. The word shiatsu is Japanese: shi means finger and atsu means pressure.
A shiatsu massage to release blockages
This form of massage therapy aims to bring your body and mind back into balance. Blockages, such as tight tissue, muscle knots, or disruptions in blood circulation, are treated using specific massage techniques. A shiatsu massage can make your body soft and supple again and bring peace to your mind.
How does shiatsu massage therapy work?
A shiatsu therapist diagnoses in the same way as an acupuncturist. Based on what you tell him and what he determines, he decides how and which points to massage. During the massage, you lie fully clothed on a thin cotton mattress on the floor or on a massage table. The shiatsu therapist massages with thumbs, fingers, and palms. He applies pressure on acupuncture points. Sometimes he uses his body weight to apply more pressure if needed. In addition to massaging, he may also stretch, extend, or move certain body parts.
When shiatsu?
Shiatsu can be used for various complaints. It provides good results for muscle and joint pain. Additionally, it promotes good blood circulation and helps eliminate waste products. Shiatsu is also suitable as a preventive treatment; regular shiatsu massage can prevent the development of complaints.
