Electro-acupuncture
Electro-acupuncture is a modern variant and works according to the same principles as classical acupuncture. The only difference is that in electro-acupuncture, low voltage is applied to the needles. Soft electrical impulses are given through electrostimulation. This enhances the effect of the needles. As a result, the relief of your symptoms can occur more quickly and work more deeply. But as always in Traditional Chinese Medicine, the effect can vary from person to person.
How does electro-acupuncture work?
The current is applied to the needles using small clips. These clips are connected to a stimulation device via a cord. Sometimes pads are applied directly to acupuncture points. Depending on the effect the acupuncturist aims for, (alternating) high, medium, and low frequencies are used. The currents on the needles can cause a slight pulsating or deep vibrating sensation. The strength of the current can be adjusted directly and easily via the stimulation device. It is important that the treatment does not cause any discomfort.
When to use electro-acupuncture?
Since electro-acupuncture works no differently than classical acupuncture, it can be used for all complaints that require a visit to an acupuncturist. However, it is often used for various forms of pain complaints, such as chronic or acute pain.
