Ear acupuncture
Ear acupuncture (also known as auriculotherapy) is a form of acupuncture where small needles are placed only on points in the ear. Ear acupuncture can be a standalone treatment but can also be applied within an acupuncture treatment to enhance it.
What is ear acupuncture?
The ear contains many acupuncture points that can be used in a traditional acupuncture treatment. However, modern ear acupuncture combines insights from Traditional Chinese Medicine with reflex zone therapy. The ear is seen as a reflection of the body as a whole. For example, the earlobe corresponds to the head and the outer edge of the ear to the spine. Every body part and organ can be found in the ear. It is like a microsystem representing a macrosystem.
Ear acupuncture for withdrawal symptoms and other complaints
It is well known that acupuncture can help with quitting smoking. The treatment used for this is ear acupuncture. It has been shown that ear acupuncture is particularly effective for addictions. It not only reduces cravings but also alleviates withdrawal symptoms. For this reason – to reduce cravings for something – ear acupuncture can also be a good support for people who want to lose weight. It moderates the desire to eat.
In addition, it is a suitable method for psychological or emotional complaints. But also (chronic) pain and allergies are often well treated with ear acupuncture.
How does it work?
Depending on the complaint, small acupuncture needles are placed on the ear. These needles remain in place for fifteen to thirty minutes. Often, so-called ear seeds are then placed to extend the treatment. These are small buttons that remain in place for about a week. The acupuncturist puts a sticker over them so you can shower and swim as usual.
