Ear acupuncture
Auriculotherapy (also known as auriculotherapy) is a form of acupuncture in which small needles are placed only on points in the ear. Auriculotherapy can be a standalone treatment, but it can also be applied within an acupuncture treatment to enhance it.
What is auriculotherapy?
The earlobe contains many acupuncture points that can be used in a classical acupuncture treatment. However, auriculotherapy as it is practiced today is a relatively modern discipline that combines insights from Traditional Chinese Medicine with reflex zone therapy. The ear is seen as a reflection of the body as a whole. For example, the earlobe corresponds to the head and the outer edge of the ear to the spine. Each body part and organ can be found in the auricle. It is like a microsystem representing a macrosystem.
Auriculotherapy for withdrawal symptoms and other complaints
It is widely known that acupuncture can be helpful in quitting smoking. The treatment used for this is auriculotherapy. It has been shown that auriculotherapy is particularly effective for addictions. It not only reduces cravings but also alleviates withdrawal symptoms. For this reason - to reduce cravings for something - auriculotherapy can also be a good support for people who want to lose weight. It moderates the desire to eat. In addition, it is a suitable method for psychological or emotional complaints. But also (chronic) pain and allergies are often well treated with auriculotherapy.
How does it work?
Depending on the complaint, small acupuncture needles are placed on the ear. These remain in place for fifteen to thirty minutes. Often, so-called ear seeds are then placed to extend the treatment. These are small buttons that remain in place for about a week. The acupuncturist puts a sticker over them so you can shower and swim as usual.
