Pediatric acupuncture
Acupuncture in children is basically not much different from adults. However, we distinguish it as a separate treatment technique, especially because you may not quickly think of acupuncture for children with a complaint. And that's a shame.
Acupuncture for children
Experience shows that children and babies respond remarkably well to acupuncture. This is due to the fact that their energy system is still pure and fully in motion. As a result, many complaints and conditions can be effectively treated with acupuncture.
Relief or healing for complaints such as eczema and ear infections
In young children, the digestive system and immune system are still developing. This makes them vulnerable to external influences. They often outgrow complaints, as it is called. Until then, the complaints can cause a lot of discomfort and some eventually become chronic. Common complaints in (young) children that can be relieved or cured by acupuncture treatment include chronic colds, chronic ear infections, eczema, allergies, coughing, asthma, diarrhea, and constipation.
But acupuncture treatment can also help with complaints more related to your child's behavior. Think of bedwetting, fears, poor sleep, low self-confidence, poor eating, hyperactivity or nervous behavior, or increased sensitivity.
How does acupuncture work in children?
Extra thin needles are used in children. In the youngest ones, the needles are removed immediately after stimulation. In older children, the needles can remain in place for a while. It may also be that the acupuncturist does not use needles but massages the acupuncture points (acupressure). During the treatment, your child can usually remain sitting on your lap.
