Recognized (para) medical pre-education
According to the NVA’s Professional Training Profile, students must complete at least 64 ECTS in Medical Basic Knowledge (MBK), supplemented with profession-specific supporting subjects, during or prior to their acupuncture training.
With 'direct admission', no 'additional NVA requirement applies, but there may be 'additional requirement ZV' to qualify for reimbursement by health insurers (ZV).
Direct Admission without Additional Health Insurance Requirement

Knowledge Centre Nursing (post-1989, with specialization)
Health Insurance Requirement:
- BIG registration: no additional requirement
- Without BIG registration: 1 WM training day per year, starting from the date of expiration
3. Naturopathy (N.C.N. – dissolved)
- Four-year day course at the Dutch College of Naturopathy (Hilversum)
Health Insurance requirement: minimum of 40 ECTS in Medical Basic Knowledge (MBK)
4. Acupuncturists (from June 2018)
Admission Requirement:
- CPION-recognized MBK diploma of at least 40 ECTS
Additional Requirement during the first registration period:
- Mandatory WM refresher program
- Non-compliance may lead to termination of NVA membership at the end of the first registration period
5. Admission with Additional Requirements (NVA)
A. MBK Diploma of at least 40 ECTS (CPION recognized)
Additional Training required during the First Registration Period:
- 5 days of WM-B training
- Up to a maximum of 7.5 days of WM-C training (depending on work experience)
B. MBO Nursing without specialization
Requirements:
- CPION-recognized MBK diploma (minimum 40 ECTS)
- The same continuing education program as above
6. Individual Assessment
A. Other HBO Medical Pre-Educations
- Assessment on an individual basis
- Required: MBK diploma of 40 ECTS + demonstrable patient contact hours
B. Foreign Educations
Requirements:
- Accredited diploma
- Nuffic/IcDW declaration
Summary
- If you hold a relevant higher professional (HBO) or university degree in a (para)medical field, admission is generally granted directly.
- Older or international diplomas may be subject to additional requirements.
- Acupuncturists and MBO graduates without specialization need additional training.
