Cupping

It may look a bit strange and mysterious: glass bowls on your body, also known as cupping. Yet it is an effective method, especially for back, shoulder, and neck complaints. Among professional athletes, the method is popular. Just watch the swimmers who appear during a competition with large, perfectly round purple-blue or red spots on their back and shoulders. They have been cupped.

A cupping massage to remove energy blockages
Cupping is a good way to remove energy blockages in your body. The cupping treatment is not only suitable for back, shoulder, and neck complaints but also for lung problems and colds. The method gets its name from the glass bowls (the cups) used. Special cups can also be used for massaging.

What is cupping?
During a cupping treatment, cups are placed on certain points on your body. In the traditional way, the air in the bowl is heated with a flame and the acupuncturist quickly places the bowl on the skin. The cup creates a vacuum and the skin is sucked up. The vacuum strongly stimulates blood circulation in that area. The great advantage of cupping is that it works deeper and more intensely on your body than a massage. Blockages such as deep muscle knots can be treated effectively. The round spots on your body will disappear within about a week after the treatment. If the spots are very dark in color, it may take a bit longer.
