Acupuncture for tennis elbow
A nasty, stabbing pain, often caused by overuse: tennis elbow is a common issue and can be very bothersome.
What is tennis elbow?
The forearm muscles attach near the outer elbow knob to the upper arm bone. Overuse causes the muscle to shorten, pulling harder on the bone membrane (periosteum) or at the muscle-tendon junction. This leads to an inflammatory-like reaction at the site. In a golfer's elbow, the pain is located at the inner elbow knob.
Acupuncture – Effective on Many Points!
Research has shown that acupuncture is the most effective treatment method for tennis elbow. And for that, you naturally go to a well-trained acupuncturist. They also assess whether, for example, the function of the blood needs to be supported. According to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), blood nourishes the muscles and tendons, so it's not a crazy idea. Pain, according to TCM, indicates that the energy flow is blocked. To address this blockage, the acupuncturist places thin needles at the painful spot and at various points along the meridian, the energy pathway. Then, they stimulate the needles during the treatment by turning them a few times.
Moxibustion
The acupuncturist can enhance the treatment by using moxibustion. Small moxa cones, compressed mugwort herb, are placed over the needle handle and ignited. The heat penetrates the painful spot through the needle, setting the energy in motion. Often, you'll notice a significant difference immediately after the treatment.
Electroacupuncture
Another effective option is electroacupuncture. Two acupuncture needles are connected to a device that emits a small electric current using tiny clips. You may feel a slight tingling or vibration with a numbing effect. This helps clear the energy blockage.
Time for You
If you are suffering from tennis elbow (or golfer's elbow), make an appointment with an acupuncturist. They are happy to assist you and will develop a suitable treatment plan together with you. Even if you have been experiencing it for a while, acupuncture can help you.
