The I Ching in poetry and music
About the Opening of the Anniversary Congress
Or: how does a cellist end up at an acupuncture congress?
Cellist and vocalist Maya Fridman, born in Moscow and residing in Utrecht, is known for her passionate performances with a unique mix of styles and genres. Together with composer and pianist Marion von Tilzer and writer Lulu Wang, she created an album inspired by the I Ching, the Book of Changes. This album inspired the congress committee for the opening act.
The I Ching speaks poetic language that connects with our original wisdom, the wisdom of nature. And music has the power to connect us with our deepest Being. Poetry and music proved to be a perfect duo to illustrate the eight trigrams of the I Ching. Author Lulu Wang selected poems from the Tang and Song Dynasties, which, combined with the music of Maya and Marion, weave a tapestry of experiences and moods. Beautiful calligraphy completes the image and the album.
The eight trigrams represent all phenomena between heaven and earth. Each trigram stands for a specific time of day, and the album covers the entire cycle of day and night, from a love song at dawn to a lullaby at night. Ten Songs of Change, each like a window to the world of a natural element, stirring Fire and serene Earth, timeless space, formless energy, the infinite unknown from which everything arises. To land in.
