Acupuncture, Moxibustion, Chinese herbs, Tuina, Qi-gong and Tai-Qi

NVA-members can practice all aspects of Traditional Chinese Medicine. They all have in common that they have been trained as an acupuncturist. Some have an additional specialisation in Chinese Herbs, Ear Acupuncture or Toyohari, some may add Tuina or Qi exercises, some may use devices like laser or electro-acupuncture. According to the NVA Professional Standard, the TCM-diagnosis is the basis for every treatment, whether performed with acupuncture, herbs, food, exercise or Tuina.

Member categories

Practicing Membership: Individuals who have successfully graduated from an acupuncture/TCM institute recognized by NVA, have medical training at the bachelor or basic level with additional medical training, and are practicing acupuncture and other TCM disciplines in a professional setting, in accordance with the NVA Code of Practice.
Affiliate Membership (non-practicing): Individuals with the same training as NVA practitioners, but who are (temporarily) not practicing acupuncture or do not currently meet the required quality standards for practicing membership.
Student Membership: Individuals studying at an acupuncture/TCM institute recognized by NVA or individuals with an acupuncture diploma who are studying for the necessary Western medicine diploma.
Senior Membership (non-practicing): Retired acupuncturists who are still engaged and interested in acupuncture and may be active in supervision, teaching, research, or writing.
Honorary Membership: Individuals who have made significant contributions to the NVA or the TCM society in general.

Discount for starters
If you have graduated recently (less than a year ago) and are about to start your practice, you will receive a discount on your membership fee: 50% discount for the first full twelve months, and 25% discount for the second twelve months. After 24 months, the full fee is required.

Calendar year membership
Terminating your membership is only possible at the end of the calendar year.
It is possible to change to another type of membership during the year though.

KAB, ETCMA and WFAS
As a member of NVA, you are automatically a member of the Dutch umbrella organisation Knowledge Centre for Acupuncture, and the European umbrella European TCM Association (ETCMA). NVA is also a member of the World Federation of Acupuncture-Moxibustion Societies (WFAS), in order to stay informed about worldwide developments.
