Day of the Earth, day of yourself
22-04-2025
Today, April 22, is Earth Day. A moment to reflect on our planet. But actually... shouldn't every day be a day of the Earth? Just like every day is also a day for you.
From the philosophy behind acupuncture, humans and the earth are deeply connected, and today we want to pay extra attention to that.
Everything is Connected
Acupuncture is based on the idea that the macrocosm
(the world around us - nature, climate, seasons) and the microcosm
(our own body and mind) mirror and influence each other. What happens outside of us affects what lives within us - and vice versa. When we take good care of ourselves, we contribute to the harmony around us. And when we treat our environment with respect, we feel that reflected back.
Returning to Balance
Balance is a key concept in acupuncture. Not too much, not too little. Not too hot or too cold. Not too fast, not too slow. Acupuncturists assess your symptoms and health from that balance perspective. During an initial consultation, they ask many questions to understand how your personal equilibrium is.
The Five Elements: Rhythm of Nature
Acupuncture utilizes the model of the five phases, also known as the five elements. These elements – wood, fire, earth, metal, and water – represent natural processes of construction, destruction, rest, and movement. This model assists the acupuncturist in determining where stimulation may be needed and where restraint is necessary. Sometimes, this may also involve dietary or lifestyle advice.
Think of it like caring for a plant: if you notice the leaves drooping, you give water. If it gets too hot in the sun, you move the plant to a cooler spot. It's that simple. It actually works the same way with yourself – but the signals are often more subtle and sometimes less clear. Acupuncture helps you recognize and respond to your body's signals more effectively, allowing you to make adjustments sooner when needed.
The Earth Begins with You
Do you know that feeling, that when you feel good about yourself, the world just seems a bit friendlier? That is the interaction between the micro- and macrocosm. The better balanced you are, the better you connect with others, with your surroundings – and with the Earth.
That's why on this Earth Day, we wish you not only love for the planet but also for yourself. Because taking care of the world starts with taking care of your own balance.
