What does processed food do to your body?
21/06/2019 posted in Current Affairs
There is something about industrially processed food that makes us want more and more of it. This has been demonstrated in scientific research by the National Diabetes Institute in the United States.
Ultra Processed Food
Subjects on a diet consisting of so-called ultra processed food, such as soda, prepackaged snacks, fish sticks, and frozen meals, consumed up to 500 kilocalories more per day than subjects who only ate unprocessed food. Experts have suspected for years that the increase in processed food in our diet is a major cause of the obesity epidemic.
You'll eat more of it
The effect of ultra-processed food is that you find it tasty and digest it easily. It is often more durable and triggers a hormonal response. The research also shows that you need more of it to feel satisfied. So, you'll eat more of it.
Energy of Food Types and Preparation Methods
Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) believes that understanding the energy of food types and how you prepare the food contributes to a healthy diet. Complicated? Not at all! For example, a cucumber has a cooling effect on your body because it contains a lot of moisture. If you cut that same cucumber into strips and stir-fry it, much of the cucumber's moisture evaporates. And the effect of the cucumber on your body changes. The cooling effect is gone, it has now become slightly warming.
Effect of Nutrition on Your Body
The effect that nutrition has on our body largely determines our fitness. Different ways of preparing food have a different effect on your body, even if it's the same type of food. That's why it's logical that processed foods, with more preservatives, sugar, or salt, elicit a different response from our body.
