February 4 - World Cancer Day

Cancer, a diagnosis that turns your world upside down and brings a lot of uncertainty. On World Cancer Day, Tuesday, February 4, attention is paid in various ways to the importance of research, treatment options, collaborations, long-term consequences, processing, and mourning.

Acupuncture and quality of life

As an acupuncturist, we play a 'modest' role in the treatment process of people with or after cancer. Acupuncture is not used to cure cancer, but it does have a positive effect on the quality of life during and after conventional treatment. For example, in cases of pain, neuropathy, nausea, sleep problems, hot flashes, anxiety, loss of concentration, and fatigue, to name a few 'additional' symptoms of the necessary oncological treatments.

Integrative care

Fortunately, more and more doctors are convinced that integrative care, a combination of conventional and complementary care such as acupuncture, complement each other fantastically. Of course, in the interest of the patient, who still feels far from great after surgery, radiation, or chemotherapy. Also, during a hormonal treatment process, such as with breast or prostate cancer, acupuncture restores a bit of balance, improving the quality of daily life.

NVA acupuncturists have the opportunity to follow a special oncology course for acupuncturists to bring their knowledge and skills in supporting oncology patients to the highest possible level. After successful completion, they meet the guidelines to be listed in the Cancer Referral Guide of the Comprehensive Cancer Center Netherlands (IKNL).
