Hospitals closing and brain damage from stress, where is this going?

06/11/2018

The above was in the news last week. Where is it all heading? Or should we ask ourselves: where should we go for our health? One thing is certain: taking care of yourself to stay as healthy and relaxed as possible is becoming increasingly important. The acupuncturist can help you with that, whether you are relatively healthy or plagued by a serious condition.

If the hospital in your city is suddenly closed, you can only hope that you have good health. And that nothing happens that would make you want to quickly reach the Emergency Room. The bankruptcy of the Slotervaart Hospital and the IJsselmeer Hospitals caused quite a stir last week. The lost feeling of patients and healthcare professionals was palpable in our living rooms through the media.

Responsibility
Not only market forces and mismanagement lead to changes in the Dutch Healthcare Climate. The government and health insurers are increasingly focusing on rewarding healthy behavior and higher costs for behavior that harms health. For example, in 2020, a pack of cigarettes will likely cost 10 euros, and we will then, like our southern neighbors, have a sugar tax to combat obesity. There is nothing wrong with encouraging people to take more
responsibility for their own health. As long as you are not
left to your own devices somewhere in the countryside with a chronic heart condition or a sprained ankle.

Another alarming news report this week
In the Telegraaf of November 4, clinical neuropsychologist Erik Matser warns that stress will cause the next global crisis. In the Netherlands, 1 in 5 people is not working due to stress and burnout. Costs: 20 billion euros per year. 'Our way of life, persistent stress, has a negative impact on the development and health of our brains, and this is already happening in children. The brains of young people are constantly stimulated, are persistently highly alert, and no longer come to rest.' Harvard Medical School recently showed that nerve pathways literally break down as a result. According to Matser, a disaster can only be averted if we intervene now. Away with perfectionism,
develop as a child, as a teenager, as a person in a life and environment that suit you.

What to do about current stress
For parents of growing children, the above is a message to reflect on. And to make new choices in the short term: less stimuli, more peace. For everyone: how do you stay as healthy and relaxed as possible as a person, employee, student, entrepreneur, or caregiver? Consider acupuncture!

An acupuncturist can help you bring body and mind back into balance. In addition to acupuncture treatment, the acupuncturist also looks at your emotions, the balance between rest and effort, nutrition, and sufficient relaxation with you. This way, you can take better responsibility for your well-being.
