Acupressure for nausea
Nausea can have various causes. It can occur when your vestibular system is struggling, for example, with motion sickness. Nausea can occur during pregnancy and as a side effect of conventional cancer treatment. And of course, if you have eaten something wrong. In that case, nausea and vomiting are a good response from the body.
Are you experiencing headache with nausea? Then read the acupressure tips in the article Weekend Headache. See the link at the bottom of the page.
Acupressure can help reduce nausea. Press on the acupuncture point P-6 or NeiGuan for a few minutes. This point is located on the inside of your forearm between the tendons, 3 fingers above your wrist. The illustrations below from www.kanker.nl show how to locate and massage P-6.
How do you find P-6?
Place three fingers (ring finger, middle finger, and index finger) across your wrist of your other arm, with your ring finger directly against the wrist crease.
Place your thumb directly underneath there. You will feel two tendons, and P-6 lies in between. Massage this point for 2 to 3 minutes with a light rotating motion. You may feel it well, but if it hurts, you are pressing a bit too hard.
Do the same with your other hand. You can do this as often as necessary.
If the skin at the intended spot is damaged, red, or swollen, or if you have an IV line nearby, choose the other arm for acupressure.
Wristband Against Nausea
Special wristbands against nausea are available at the drugstore. Inside, there is a hard ball that provides constant and gentle pressure on P-6. Make sure the ball stays in the right place.
