Stiffness in rheumatic complaints
Arthritis comes in many variations. In general, there is a great similarity: besides everyone experiencing pain, swelling, or inflammation to a lesser or greater extent, everyone experiences stiffness. Especially when it is cold or humid outside, arthritis patients feel stiff. And if we have worked too hard, we walk bent over from muscle pain the next day. Fortunately, TCM can provide relief here!
Acupuncture
By massaging acupuncture points, you can greatly reduce stiffness and muscle pain in arms, hands, and back. Massage each point with gentle pressure for five minutes by making circular movements with your fingers. Which points can you massage?
Arm Muscle Pain:
The points Shousanli and Quchi provide relief. Shousanli is located on the forearm, on the imaginary line between the thumb and the outer side of the elbow.
Quchi is also on the forearm but on the line between the elbow crease and the well-known 'phone bone'.
Muscle Pain in the Fingers:
The points Hegu and Yangxi are ideal. Hegu is located on the back of the hand, just before the convergence of the middle hand bones of the thumb and index finger.
Hegu is the most well-known point in TCM and triggers the release of endorphins (a pain-relieving substance) in the brain. This point is not suitable for pregnant women because an acupuncturist may also use it to induce labor.
Yangxi is also located on the hand, in the hollow at the base of the thumb, at the transition between the thumb and wrist, between the two tendons.
