Leonard Tan
Why did you choose to become an acupuncturist? What or who inspired you?
I was not satisfied enough with my regular practice as a physiotherapist and wanted more. I have more than achieved that. The inspiration is partly genetic; I am half Chinese from my father's side. The (health) philosophy appeals to me greatly, with all its patterns of disharmony, causes of diseases, and so on.

What is your most beautiful experience with a patient?
I cannot name just one beautiful experience. There are several: the recovery of people, pain relief in terminal and chronic patients, and at the birth of babies.
What still amazes you in your profession?
The crazy indications people come for, and that's what makes it fun.
Is there something in your practice that embodies the essence of Traditional Chinese Medicine for you?
Yes, a medical Buddha statue.
